Co-convened by Pierre Navarre and Matt Street, the Hip Society COE was held at Millbrook 2-3 August

Over 100 delegates attended the meeting in Queenstown. On Thursday evening we came together for a welcome function in the Clubhouse Restaurant at Millbrook

Delegates enjoyed a programme of fantastic talks, panel discussions and case presentations with the involvement of experienced surgeons from all around New Zealand.

Friday started with a mihi and welcome  - then the presentation sections commenced with arthroplasty, which included topics such as the 'why and how' of anterior and posterior approaches and hip replacement in young patients

 Then the trauma segment included talks on periprosthetic fractures, acute total hip replacement for neck of femur fracture & case discussions

There were outstanding contributions from a bariatric surgeon and ID physician highlighting multidisciplinary care considerations

After lunch came the section focusing on challenging problems such as dealing with psoas impingement post hip replacement and metal on metal hip surveillance. The last presentation set of the day focused on outcome optimisation

The day's business finished with the Society holding their AGM, then dinner was at Stoneridge in Queenstown - a magnificent atmosphere to relax and catch up in!

On Saturday morning the first presentations covered infection prevention and included a historic perspective on space suit use, as well as infection management with DAIR and 1 vs 2 stage revision surgery, then finished with case discussions

The meeting concluded with another arthroplasty series... a memorable highlight being Louis LeBlond's outstanding explanation of his recommendations to his patients so that they can confidently resume their intimate lives post operation
