The SET 2-5 Training Weekend was held over 20-21 September at Royston Hospital, many thanks to the consultants, staff and registrars at Royston for hosting us. Particular thanks to Sanka Bambarawana who put in endless hours to put together a fantastic few days of learning.
We had the opportunity to CONGRATULATE both Ben Funaki and Rutvik Vanamala who passed the Fellowship Exam the weekend prior and we were able to celebrate all the 2024 SET 5 group at dinner at Blackbarn Bistro in Havelock North who will all head off on their Fellowships in 2025.
The TOP TRAINEE for the weekend was Mark Zhu - congratulations Mark!
Dr Peter Burt, Clinical Advice Manager/Kaiwhakahaere Haumanu from ACC gave a very interesting and relevant presentation to the SET 5 group on Saturday morning, it was a good insight to the workings of ACC and how to manage patients with ACC claims and also who to talk to.
The weekend had an excellent range of patients who all enjoyed the experience and the trainees got to see many interesting and varied cases.
The sports on Saturday was clay target shooting, not high overall scoring by the teams but some clear winners and losers on the day.
It was also a time to say goodbye to three of our Education Committee members, Robert Rowan, (also on the Training Board) NZOA Censor, Dean Schluter Surgical Supervisor from North Shore and Martyn Sims, Education Small Centre Rep from Rotorua. They have done a fantastic job over the last 4 years supporting the trainees, the Education Committee and Board with education and training overall.
